| Welcome to the 43d Infantry Division Memorial page. The following pages show the proposed memorial in a color rendition from Fox-Becker Memorial Stones in Middletown, Connecticut; and as line print drawings. | This is a four sided monument that stands 6 feet 8" inches tall with a base of 3 feet square. The four states that made up the 43d Division are represented in alphabetical order, one per side. The Vermont side honors Gen. Leonard F. Wing who was Commander of the 43d in World War II and whom the Division's nick name, the "Winged Victory" Division was derived. Gen. Wing was the only National Guard officer to command an Infantry Division during the war. On the left is a pencil drawing of Gen. Wing. |
